Greetings,
I am La Toya Sykes, Director of Outreach and Access Awareness. Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation recently created this new department to help show middle and high school students and their parents that a college education is an achievable goal – and that there are many forms of financial aid available to help them turn their college dreams into reality. Once potential college students become student loan borrowers, our focus shifts to helping them develop and maintain the money management skills they will need to be successful both during college and beyond.
In order to deliver our outreach and access message, I plan to work directly with college financial aid office and admissions office staff, high school guidance counselors, community-based organizations, and college access programs. In my monthly column, you'll learn about our new initiatives, how you can join us in these activities, and our upcoming plans to help more students gain access to higher education.
I am so excited about this opportunity and know what a difference opening doors to education can make to students and their families. For me, this is a very heartfelt endeavor.
