Greetings from Great Lakes' Director of Outreach and Access Awareness!
The new school year is well underway and we're pleased to offer Financial Aid: A Counselor's Toolkit. This toolkit is designed to assist college access practitioners and high school counselors in explaining the financial aid process to confused high school students without confusing them even more. It is also a great online training tool for new financial aid staff or the new work-study student.
At the heart of this new toolkit is A Counselor's Guide to Financial Aid, which provides the important facts regarding financial aid. It contains practical advice and answers to common financial aid questions that can be shared with students and their parents. You can quickly reference this guide for needed information, without getting bogged down by technical language or excessive detail.
This toolkit also includes several of our Student Success guides and other financial aid materials. These materials are available free-of-charge. We hope they will be helpful for students and their parents as they look for ways to pay for college.
As you help new groups of students open doors to education, I hope you find Financial Aid: A Counselor's Toolkit to be a handy and trusted source of information. I encourage you to view and print out the toolkit at mygreatlakes.org.
Feel free to share any comments regarding this new toolkit. For additional information email me at outreachandaccess@glhec.org.
Until next time, have a great month!
La Toya Sykes, Director
